On Thursday, March 18, the Captiva Civic Association will feature the works of island artist Myra Roberts, with an opening reception taking place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The show will run until April 8.

Roberts will also present a program during the Captiva Memorial Library’s Cultural Fest on the following Wednesday, March 24, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Roberts’ artwork hangs in many island galleries, including Art in the Tree Tops Gallery on Sanibel, BIG ARTSl, Lily & Co. Jewelers and Arts for ACT in Fort Myers.

Her recognizably vintage style has been memorialized in a book she just released called, “Retro Images from the Florida Coast.”

Roberts said she spent weeks on Captiva sketching the Chapel By-the-Sea and looking through the chapel’s cemetery. Several pieces in her upcoming show were inspired by Captiva.

“It’s a real honor to show my work in the same exhibit hall as Robert Rauschenberg. It’s a perfect setting to have the show because of it being in the center of the island’s history. The location is otherworldly I am definitely back in time when I go there,” Roberts said.

The Captiva Civic Association is located at 11550 Chapin Lane. For more information, call 472-2111.
