Captiva artist Farwell headlines Naples AMG opening

3 min read

The Art Modern Gallery (AMG) in Naples will be opening “Objects of Desire,” a show highlighting select original and limited edition works from Modernism through Neo-Pop, on Friday, May 22.

AMG has just moved into a more intimate exhibition space located on Fifth Avenue South in Naples and accomplished Captiva artist Stella Farwell will be headlining the show as the AMG debuts their brand new gallery space.

“The Space is intimate and located on the busy cosmopolitan Fifth Avenue South. It blends in well with the endless galleries and restaurants, full of visitors and locals,” said gallery owner Robert Fontaine. “We are very excited about the new space, it’s more ideal for us. We have a lot of European collectors as well as locals, and Fifth Avenue South is the most recognizable location in Naples and a great deal of people visit this area before any other.”

“I’m really excited about the new smaller space,” Farwell said. “It’s in a great location.”

Farwell has worked closely with the Art Modern Gallery over the past few months, including highly successful solo and group exhibitions, and is getting ready to prepare for a solo exhibition there next spring.

“It’s a pleasure to work with a gallery that’s so professional,” she said.

Farwell’s featured piece in the show, “Incoming Tide,” is a dynamic and colorful wall sculpture that the artist describes as her impression of the way the tide comes in.

“I’m happy with the end result,” Farwell said.

Fernand Leger, Josef Albers, Robert Rauschenberg, Larry Rivers and Frank Stella will also be represented in the show, in addition to other original and unique limited edition works by artists Pablo Picasso, Robert Natkin, Robert Mars, Jasper Johns, Joan Miro, Louise Nevelson, James Rosenquist, Andy Warhol, Steve Bufter, Karen Stone, Troy Abbott, Dakota Sica, Enrique Gomez De Molina and Helen Frankenthaler.

“The show on May 22 celebrates the new location with a unique title – ‘Objects of Desire’ – which gives a hint to some of the more romanticized art works on view, such as a late painting by famed artist Fernand Leger of a beautiful Garden Scene titled ‘Nature Mort,’ Helen Frankenthaler’s ‘Flotilla,’ a soft colored abstract work of flowing shapes, and Stella Farwell’s “Incoming Tide,” a deep blue-colored gestural painting highlighting the movement of water as time and space,” Fontaine explained.

An opening reception for “Objects of Desire” will be held on Friday, May 22 from 7 to 9 p.m.

AMG welcomes everyone to join them at their new gallery space, including a brand new virtual gallery, located at 824 Fifth Avenue in Naples.

“It’s going to be a wonderful show filled with a variety of mediums and perspectives,” said gallery owner Robert Fontaine.
