Bertie Higgins releases new CD entitled ‘Captiva’
The great, great grandson of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, the famed German intellectual and writer who authored “Faust” and innumerable key works of German literature, singer/songwriter Bertie Higgins, has inherited his ancestor’s natual ability and passion for storytelling.
Growing up in Tarpon Springs, Fla., Higgins began honing his gift for music as a young boy, performing with his high school band and eventually signed on as drummer with the Tommy Roe band, The Roemans.
During his career as a travelling drummer, Higgins had the opportunity to tour the world, opening for bands like The Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys and Roy Orbison – just to name a few.
Higgins soon grew tired of the road and decided to work on staking his own claim in the industry he loved so much.
What resulted were several fortuitous meetings with some of the best musical minds in the business, a chart-topping single called “Key Largo” and a multi-platinum album.
Since then, Higgins has released nine more “trop rock” albums and garnered a huge international fan following. In recent years, Higgins has been busy touring the world with his talented group of musicians, The Band of Pirates.
But Higgins is much more than a musician. He’s also the father of four children, a dedicated conservationist, philanthropist and an accomplished screenwriter.
Higgins’ second feature film, “Poker Run,” which he also wrote, was recently picked up by Showtime and will air in December.
Higgins’ latest release, “Captiva,” is his 10th album and features some of his favorite songs, both original and other classics, performed in Higgins’ signature “trop rock” style.
“It just seemed like it was time to go back in the studio and do what I do for a living, make records,” Higgins said. “I draw my inspiration from everyday life, what I do, what happens in my life life, everyday. A lot of it comes from that.”
“I’ve had a very interesting time doing what I do. Now we’re shooting feature films,” he added, noting that he’s beginning work on a third film.
