Chaviano wins District 7 seat on school board
Vanessa Chaviano claimed the at-large District 7 seat for the School District of Lee County school board on Nov. 5.
Chaviano received 207,179 votes, or 69.12%, and her opponent Sheridan Chester received 92,558 votes, or 30.88%, in the General Election.
She could not be immediately reached for comment on election night.
The District 7 race was open to all voters countywide. Cathleen O’Daniel Morgan, who served in the seat since November of 2012, did not seek re-election.
Results are not official until certified.
Chaviano, 40, a 25-year resident of Lee County who lives in Cape Coral, is in marketing operations at LIV Digital Marketing. She has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and criminal forensics and a master’s degree in criminal forensics, behavioral analysis, and business administration.
Chaviano is an appointed member for the site section committee, as well as for the equity and diversity advisory committee for the school district. She is a board member and member of the government affairs committee for the Cape Coral Chamber of Commerce, as well as a coach for Pop Warner Youth Football Youth Cheer, Cape Competes stakeholder member and president of Leading Latina Inc.
The top three issues she wants to tackle are improving student achievement, championing career and technical schools, and parental involvement.
Chaviano will join new school board members Bill Ribble and Vanessa Chaviano, who won their races in the Primary Election in August.
