John Joseph Dickersen
John Joseph Dickersen (79) passed away peacefully on April 9th, 2024.
Born June 9th, 1944 to his parents Barbara and Charles Dickersen. John was raised in Springfield, MA with his sister Carol Ann. John also grew up alongside Bruce Leary, his “blood brother” and remained close their entire lives. John served in the United States Coast Guard and was stationed in the US Virgin Islands on the USCGC Point Slocum. John moved to Florida after his time served, where he had his own Carpentry business and for over a decade was the Commander of the American Legion Post 123 on Sanibel Island. It was there that he had three children, Michael, Charlie and Jaimie Dickersen. Forever proud of his children, touting them as his “greatest accomplishments”, John was joyfully “Grampy” to Sophia and Leo, his grandchildren, whom he loved so deeply. He will be sorely missed not only by his children and grandchildren but also his brother-in-law Robert Wayne Galbraith, his niece Celina Covington and his nephews Robert Wayne Galbraith Jr. And Glen Galbraith.
John was strong willed and stubborn at times, but he also had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. He was generous, loyal, and brave. He was wise and full to the brim with knowledge gained through all of his life experiences: from being a Coastie to a Carpenter to the Commander. He could do it all.
He will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his friends and family. He truly loved each of them- and if you knew him, you knew it. When his time came, he carried himself with dignity, strength, and full of love for those who went before him. He will be missed dearly.
Family and friends of the Dickersen Family are respectfully invited to attend the funeral service for John Dickersen, which will be held at American Legion Post 123, Sanibel Island, Florida on June 1st, beginning at 10 am.
