‘Teddy Roosevelt’ coming to refuge
Joe Wiegand will return to the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel with his popular reprisal of President Teddy Roosevelt to kick off President’s Day weekend on Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. in The Roost. The free 30-plus-minute program is open to the public. In true “Teddy” character, Wiegand will deliver a “bully” performance focusing on the history of the president’s connection with conservation, Sanibel and Captiva, and the refuge. Bench seating will be available, but attendees are welcome to bring lawn chairs. Wiegand will spend a few days as a guest of the “Ding” Darling Wildlife Society-Friends of the Refuge, doing outreach and special programs to raise conservation awareness.
