Richard L. (Dick) Corbin
Richard L. (Dick) Corbin, 100, of Sanibel, Florida, died December 31, 2023. He died peacefully in his sleep at 100 and a half at Shell Point. He was born on July 7, 1923, to Harry and Catherine Corbin in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Faverty Corbin, in 2008.
Dick served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII, fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and received the Bronze Star Medal. After WWII, Dick began his career in the family department store business, Penn Traffic, and Riverside Markets in Johnstown. He retired as Vice-President.
Dick and Dorothy moved to Sanibel, Florida, in 1979 and purchased a business with their son, Steve, continuing his retail career at the Cheese Nook Gift and Gourmet store in Periwinkle Place Shopping Center. He continued to work at the store after it was sold well into his 90s.
A long-time member of the Sanibel Community Church, Dick was an avid golfer, Penn State football fan, and traveled extensively with Dorothy. He loved his family dearly and was a true gentleman of the Greatest Generation.
He is survived by his children, Michael Corbin (Becky), Stephen Corbin (Heather), and Christine Corbin Wissel (Phil). Grandchildren Alicia Corbin, John Corbin, Hillary Corbin Huang, Kristin Corbin Stubelt, Ashley Machunze Wissel, Richard Corbin Wissel. Great grandchildren Charlotte Grace Corbin, Evan James Corbin, James Richard Corbin, Rose Dorothy Corbin, Madelyn Leigh Stubelt, and Wenmei Lenore Huang.
