Flood watch planned for coastal Lee, Charlotte

The city of Sanibel reported that it received an advisory today, Jan. 8, from the National Weather Service regarding a coastal flood watch in effect from the evening of Jan. 9 to the morning of Jan. 10.

It included the following information:

– What: Significant coastal flooding possible

– Where: Coastal Charlotte and Lee counties

– Impacts: Numerous roads may be closed. Low lying property including homes, businesses and some critical infrastructure may be inundated. Some shoreline erosion may occur.

The National Weather Service added the following precautionary/preparedness actions:

If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.
