Registration open for annual International Coastal Cleanup

By KEEP LEE COUNTY BEAUTIFUL - | Aug 24, 2022

KEEP LEE COUNTY BEAUTIFUL Volunteers clean up the Sanibel Causeway Islands during last year's International Coastal Cleanup.

Keep Lee County Beautiful is taking registrations for the International Coastal Cleanup on Sept. 17 from 8 to 11 a.m. at various locations throughout Lee County, including the Sanibel Causeway Islands.

Since its beginning, more than 17 million volunteers around the world have collected over 348 million pounds of trash. It remains the largest, global volunteer effort to remove trash from local shorelines.

KLCB is the local organizer of the Ocean Conservancy’s ICC in Southwest Florida.

“International Coastal Cleanup is a leading and inspiring action in support of protecting our waterways,” Executive Director Trish Fancher said. “KLCB is committed to fight ocean trash and couldn’t do it without our amazing volunteers.”

Advance registration is required.

As of Aug. 17, 16 of the 45 available slots for the Causeway Islands has been filled.

This year’s event sponsors include: Red Sox Foundation, Cemex, Fort Myers, Surfing’s Evolution & Preservation Foundation, Waste Pro, Lee County Solid Waste, Kayak Excursion, WM, Florida State Parks, Suncoast Beverage, Doc’s Beach House, Town of Fort Myers Beach, City of Cape Coral, City of Bonita Springs, Home Hunters USA, Coca-Cola Beverages Florida, Keep Florida Beautiful, Ocean Conservancy, Safeguard Destruction Services, Tunaskin, Keep America Beautiful, Lovers Key State Park, Fort Myers Parks & Recreation, Fort Myers Beach Community Foundation, Royal Scoop Ice Cream, and Buffalo Chips.
