F.I.S.H. to host monthly luncheon with speaker

By Staff | Sep 9, 2021

F.I.S.H. of Sanibel-Captiva is continuing its community-wide Friendly Faces Luncheon in a virtual format. Islanders can attend via the Zoom platform for games, conversation and guest speakers.

The next one will take place on Sept. 21, featuring guest speaker Duane Shaffer from the Sanibel Public Library. He will discuss strategies and tactics used during the “Battle of Fort Myers.”

“The Battle of Fort Myers was a Civil War battle that happened on Feb. 20,1865, and is considered to be the southernmost battle of the Civil War war,” he said.

Prepared by George & Wendy’s and delivered by F.I.S.H. volunteers, the lunch will consist of a cold entree, side, water bottle and dessert. The cost is waived and complimentary to all participants. Meal choice details are provided upon sign-up.

“We hope community members join the fun, catch up with friends from the past and make new connections,” F.I.S.H. Senior Services & Community Engagement Director Susan Alexander said. “It’s been difficult on our community, particularly our seniors, during COVID social distancing measures. We hope everyone will use this platform as a safe way to socialize.”

Reservations and meal choices are required by Sept. 17.
