Chamber celebrates Captiva Spirits launch
Captiva Spirits Inc. launched its all-natural Key Lime Honey Vodka in February. On Aug. 18, the Sanibel & Captiva Islands Chamber of Commerce helped celebrate the occasion with a ribbon cutting at Matzaluna on Sanibel.
Matzaluna is among nearly 30 Southwest Florida restaurants, bars and liquor outlets from Naples to Sarasota that carry the one-of-a-kind vodka created by partners Rob Johnson and Michael Puzia.
“We wanted to create ‘Florida’s Favorite Formula’ of vodka to capture the casual ambience of being on one of the Sanibel and Captiva islands’ beaches,” Puzia said. “As a Florida-based company, we at Captiva Spirits believe living in Florida comes with a very important responsibility. That responsibility is to help protect and preserve Florida’s natural habitats and wildlife populations. That is why we donate a portion of sales to nonprofit organizations dedicated to preserving the natural beauty of Florida.”
Distilled locally at the List Distillery in Fort Myers, Captiva Spirits makes its Key Lime Honey Vodka with 100 percent gluten-free, organic corn mash and locally sourced key limes and raw honey.
“The Sanibel-Captiva chamber encourages creativity and sustainability in the island marketplace, and Captiva Spirits is a prime example of that business model,” chamber President and Chief Executive Officer John Lai said. “We toast Mike and Rob, and welcome them to the fold.”
“We were driven to become chamber members to have access to the vast array of resources available in terms of advertising and business networking, as well as to be a part of supporting the Sanibel and Captiva community in general,” Puzia said.
