Junonia found on Captiva
Dr. Kim Barbolla Vasquez, of Marshall, Texas, found a junonia on the morning of July 12 near the South Seas Island Resort on Captiva. She reported that she was about 20 yards out in hip-deep water and scooped it out of a sand shelf by luck. She could only see the edge of the shelf and first thought it was a conch shell. She she dropped the shell the first time and reached back down to grab it and was totally shocked when she saw what it actually was. Vasquez added that it was her 13th year vacationing on Captiva and that she feels blessed because she truly never thought she would find a junonia.
