Ikki Matsumoto book wins IPPY award medal
The Sandpiper Press announced “Captivated, The Art of Ikki Matsumoto” has been recognized with a bronze medal in the 2021 Independent Publisher Book Awards in the Coffee Table Book category.
“The IPPY’s is a global competition, so being singled out by them as one of the top three coffee table books in the world this year is quite an honor,” author and publisher Steve Saari said. “It is also a testament to the one-of-a-kind talents of Ikki Matsumoto and we hope recognition like this can help his art reach a larger audience.”
“Captivated” is a heartfelt tribute to the legendary island artist, whose whimsical and iconic work was inspired by the abundant wildlife of Sanibel and Captiva. The 156-page work encompasses a broad range of Matsumoto’s artwork, along with candid family photos and mementos from the artist’s nearly 40 years working in the region.
Launched in 1996, the Independent Publisher Book Awards are designed to bring increased recognition to the deserving but often unsung titles published by independent authors and publishers. Open exclusively to independents, the IPPYs recognize the year’s best books and bring them to the attention of booksellers, buyers, librarians and book lovers.
