County library system providing virtual programming

LEE COUNTY

The Lee County Library System, which includes the Captiva Memorial Library, is offering the following free virtual programming for all ages:

ADULT PROGRAMS

– June 11: Beginning Basic Genealogy Research at 10 a.m.

Seminar will cover the Ten Steps to Genealogical Research success and how to effectively navigate through the research process. Advance registration required.

– June 15: Author Presentation at 10 a.m.

Virtual author presentation featuring Tyler Gillespie, author of “The Thing About Florida: Exploring a Misunderstood State.” Audience Q&A will be offered. Gillespie is a poet and award-winning journalist published in Rolling Stone, The Guardian, Vice, The Daily Beast, Salon, GQ, The Nation and Playboy. In addition to his latest work, he is the author of “Florida Man: Poems.” Advance registration required before June 15 at 10 a.m.

TEEN PROGRAMS

– June 22: Wildlife Rehabilitation with Nature’s Nursery at 1 p.m.

What does it mean to be a wildlife rehabilitator? What do you do if you find an animal you believe needs help? How can you help the animal? This program will introduce teens to current happenings in the clinic and nursery while teaching attendees how to respond if they find an injured animal. The program will also teach teens how to build a bird’s nest with twigs, sticks and leaves found outside of the home.

CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS

– June 21: Myrtle Over the Moon

In this original moooosical Adventure, a “boring bovine” seeks love and fame on MooTube by attempting to jump over the moon using a trampoline, roller skates and a jetpack. She fails, but finally realizes the appreciation she craves was there all along. A cast of talented kids join Kenny and Page Turner in this tale of farmyard friendship.

– June 22: Cow Over the Moon Paper Plate Spinners

With a couple of paper plates and a few simple supplies, kids can make their own cows. Grab and Go Activity Kits with supplies for this craft are available at all library locations, beginning June 14, while supplies last.

BIRTH TO PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS

– June 9: Storytime Anytime!

Enjoy storytime at home or on the go with Storytime Anytime! This is a condensed version of the in-person storytimes and includes a variety of songs, stories, rhymes and caregiver tips designed to promote and reinforce early literacy and language development.

The Captiva Memorial Library is open Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It offers curbside hold pick up on Tuesday through Saturday.
