With the end of the school year quickly approaching and families looking for something for children to do over the summer, some island organizations still have openings available for their programming.

While the Sanibel Sea School’s summer camps are fully booked up, The Community House and Children’s Education Center of the Islands have openings available for their summertime programs. In addition, two island churches are again offering vacation bible school for youths for the summer.

THE COMMUNITY HOUSE

The Community House will host “A Summer to Remember” in-person camp for children ages 6-12. Running July 5-9 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., no two days will be the same, officials reported.

Campers will learn how to paint shells with shaving cream and other mediums, make necklaces and bracelets, learn to cook and bake, try their hand at watercolor painting and even create art out of “found” items. They will learn about plants and butterflies, and team building exercises are planned.

On July 9, the campers can bring their pajamas and stay for a movie from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

The cost is $50 per day or $225 for the week. Scholarships are available.

Campers can bring their own lunch or have one provided for an additional $10.

Snacks will be provided.

The Community House is at 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel.

CHILDREN’S EDUCATION CENTER OF THE ISLANDS

The Children’s Education Center of the Islands will offer its Summer Camp from June 7 to July 30. Each week is themed and designed for attendees to explore and connect with the natural world.

According to the CECI, the program builds on the center’s nature-based educational model. The campers will enjoy the 11-acre nature grounds, take trail hikes and get up close with wildlife.

“Whether children are interested in cooking, art, science or even pirates, the Summer Camp is sure to encourage all children to connect to Sanibel’s environment in a fun and exciting way,” Executive Director Kerra Cook said.

Scholarships are also available for families in need, thanks in part to The Sanctuary Golf Club Foundation and F.I.S.H. of Sanibel-Captiva.
