Sanibel library seeking materials for its archives

By SPL - | May 11, 2021

PHOTO PROVIDED Beth Jarrell, Danny Hussey and Betty Anholt have been digitizing archive materials at the Sanibel Public Library.

The Sanibel Public Library is seeking stories, photos and videos of people and places on Sanibel and Captiva for its digital archives, which can now be accessed online through the library’s homepage.

With over 2,000 items, the ever-growing collection is a peek into the islands’ past. To browse the images, newspapers and oral histories, visit www.sanlib.org. Seed development for the ongoing project is supported in part by the Roni Jo Freer Fund of the Sanibel Public Library Foundation.

Locals and visitors can attend U.S. Civil War history programs with Duane Shaffer via Zoom. He will present “Battle of Gettysburg: Day Three” on May 14 at 10 a.m. Shaffer’s next program, “The Battle of Fort Myers,” is scheduled for May 28. More details and login instructions are at www.sanlib.org. In addition, replays of Shaffer’s past programs can be watched online.

During the months of May and June, stop by the library to see plein air landscape paintings by Sanibel-Captiva Art League member Peter Zell on display.

The library has 2020 IRS Form 1040/1040 SR and its instruction booklet. The forms are available in limited supply. All other tax forms can be printed from the IRS Website at irs.gov. Those who need help printing forms can ask library staff for assistance. A library card is not required to use the printers.
