F.I.S.H. of Sanibel-Captiva reported that it has wrapped up its second opportunity for community members to receive the COVID-19 vaccination through an on-island pop-up site on April 9.

The Community House partnered with F.I.S.H. by offering its facility.

The Florida Department of Health-Lee administered 300 first doses of the Pfizer vaccine. The second dose will be given during another pop-event site scheduled for April 30 again at TCH on Sanibel.

Following a letter addressed to Gov. Ron DeSantis and local elected officials outlining the need for vaccines on Sanibel, F.I.S.H. secured two pop-up sites in March and April. F.I.S.H. was assisted by other partners such as the Sanibel-Captiva Rotary Club, Sanibel Police Department, Sanibel Fire and Rescue District, parish nurses, medical offices, pharmacies, city officials and F.I.S.H. volunteers.

“Being able to offer 550 vaccinations between the two offerings was an incredible step toward assisting our most vulnerable residents and those still needing the vaccination,” Assistant Executive Director Maria Espinoza said. “We are honored that our community partners were so willing to be a part of our team.”
