Scheduled for May 15 at The Sanctuary Golf Club, the Sanibel School Fund’s Blue Ribbon Classic Golf Tournament will feature a raffle prize this year that promises a new level of excitement.

A combination of adventure and conservation, it will be an Everglades python hunt. The winner and three friends will have the chance to help eradicate the invasive species on a guided hunt with celebrity outfitter Bill Booth, with the History Channel’s “Swamp People,” during the python hunting season.

Python hunting season runs from January through April. All pythons caught on the hunt will be taken to the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission for data collection, then skinned and returned.

The event is sponsored by Sarah Ashton and Chris Kirchner, of Keller Williams Realty.

“Pythons hunts are decreasing the population of the invasive pythons in the Everglades. These efforts are essential to the preservation and restoration of the Everglades ecosystem,” Ashton, president of the “Ding” Darling Wildlife Society-Friends of the Refuge, said. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to support both the local Sanibel school and the Everglades conservation efforts with this event.”

Only 300 tickets will be sold for the drawing.

While no purchase or contribution is necessary to participate, a $50 donation is suggested to support the fund’s initiatives, including the STEM program, Leadership Training and foreign language classes.

Tickets can be purchased at Keller Williams Realty, at 2440 Palm Ridge Road, Sanibel, and Bailey’s General Store, at 2477 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel, or by emailing thesanibelschoolfund@gmail.com.

Checks can be made out to the Sanibel School Fund.

The drawing for the Everglades python hunt raffle will take place on May 15 at 8 p.m. at MudBugs Cajun Kitchen, at 1473 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel. Participants do not need to be present to win.
