The Sanibel Public Library recently reported that Reference Librarian Beth Jarrell is the monthly recipient of the statewide Exemplary Reference “Ask A Librarian” Award for Detailed Chat.

Ask a Librarian helps those seeking assistance with library and research-related questions from reference staff, at no additional cost. It provides Florida residents with help through live online chat and text messaging. The service is funded with a grant from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services through the Florida Department of State, Division of Library and Information Services.

Jarrell began working at the library in 2019. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts with honors in journalism from the University of Toronto in 2015 and earned a Masters of Library and Information Science from the University of Washington in 2019. Originally from Canada, her family has been vacationing on the island for more than 20 years.

Locals and visitors can attend World War II history programs with staffer Duane E. Shaffer via Zoom. He will present programs via Zoom on April 9 and 30 and May 14 and 28. More details and login instructions are at www.sanlib.org. In addition, replays of Shaffer’s programs can be watched online.

The library has 2020 IRS Form 1040/1040 SR and its instruction booklet. The forms are available in limited supply. All other tax forms can be printed from the IRS Website at irs.gov. Those who need help printing forms can ask library staff for assistance. A library card is not required to use the printers.

During the month of April, stop by the library to see landscape and seascape acrylic paintings by Sanibel-Captiva Art League member Jim Storer on display.

Youth Services Librarian Deanna Evans posts online storytimes each week. To share in her virtual storytimes, songs and smiles, check out the library’s Children’s Page at sanlib.org/children.

The library continues to offer contact-less curbside service. To use the service, put items on hold online or make requests by calling 239-472-2483. You will be notified when your items are ready for pickup. Patrons have three days, excluding Saturday and Sunday, to pick up items. Hours are Monday to Friday from noon to 3 p.m.

Library cards are available to residents of Sanibel and Lee County at no charge.

Visitor library cards are available for a $10 annual fee.
