Sanibel library ‘rescuing’ food for county initiative

The Sanibel Public Library is taking part in Lee County’s “Donated not Wasted” food rescue campaign. It encourages seasonal residents and visitors to donate unopened pantry items before heading north. People can donate canned or dry goods from now through April 5 to the box in the library’s main lobby.

Locals and visitors can attend World War II history programs with staffer Duane E. Shaffer via Zoom. On April 9 at 10 a.m., he will present “Battle of Gettysburg: Day One.” Learn about General Robert E. Lee’s invasion of Pennsylvania in the summer of 1863. Visit www.sanlib.org and click on the link to login a few minutes beforehand to watch. More details and login instructions are online. In addition, replays of Shaffer’s programs can be watched.

The library has 2020 IRS Form 1040/1040 SR and its instruction booklet. The forms are available in limited supply. All other tax forms can be printed from the IRS Website at irs.gov. Those who need help printing forms can ask library staff for assistance. A library card is not required to use the printers.

During the months of March and April, stop by the library to see landscape and seascape acrylic paintings by Sanibel-Captiva Art League member Jim Storer on display.

The library continues to offer contact-less curbside service. To use the service, put items on hold online or make requests by calling 239-472-2483. You will be notified when your items are ready for pickup. Patrons have three days, excluding Saturday and Sunday, to pick up items. Hours are Monday to Friday from noon to 3 p.m.

Library cards are available to residents of Sanibel and Lee County at no charge.

Visitor library cards are available for a $10 annual fee.

The Sanibel Public Library is open Mondays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The library is closed on Sundays.
