Wanda Mae Dubbe

Mar 23, 2021

Wanda Mae Dubbe passed from this world to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, January 8, 2021. She was born in Sacred Heart, Minnesota on July 24, 1930 to Mary and Julius Volding. She grew up in Sacred Heart and graduated from Sacred Heart High School, then going on to attend college and work at the University of Minnesota. While at the U of MN, Wanda met the love of her life, Richard Frank Dubbe, in Minneapolis, Minnesota and they were married in Wanda’s home town of Sacred Heart at the First English Lutheran Church. They soon started a family and raised their four children in both Minnesota and California before retiring to Sanibel Island, FL, followed by Shell Point Retirement Community in Fort Myers.

She is survived by her four children; Dean, Jane, John and Kent; her two daughter-in-laws Helen and Heather; and, her eight admiring grandchildren.

Wanda had a gift and a love for music, specifically the piano and organ, and spent many years teaching piano, holding piano recitals, playing the organ in church, and singing in the church choir. She was a very active member of her church wherever she resided, and volunteered a tremendous amount of time to many church programs. In addition, she volunteered on the Island with both the Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation and CROW. Wanda and her husband Richard enjoyed sharing as much time together as they could get, and loved to explore and travel by boat, plane, car or train. Most recently, Wanda returned to Norway in 2017 to share the country of her ancestors with her children. Wanda is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years.

The family is holding two Memorial Celebrations in honor of Wanda’s life, the first being a small family virtual gathering, and the second being a Memorial Service in most likely the fall of 2021, at Sanibel United Church of Christ, 2050 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel. An announcement of the fall service will be made once we are able to hold the service outside of the constraint of the pandemic. Memorials may be made to the Music Program at Sanibel United Church of Christ in Wanda’s name. www.sanibelucc.org
