SCUCC to offer program on Truth

The Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ will host a Zoom presentation, “Sojourner Truth: The Voice of Courage,” on March 24 at 9:30 a.m. as part of its Theological Studies program.

The Rev. Dr. John H. Danner will cover the life story of Truth, the important and vibrant woman who worked for the abolition of slavery and the advancement of women’s rights. Originally named Isabella, she later took her provocative name as a symbol of her new freedom. Truth was a frequent speaker at countrywide gatherings in the mid-nineteenth century, at one point meeting with Abraham Lincoln.

The presentation is open to the public.
