Local youths receive adaptive tricycles
Robbie’s Riders, Grampy’s Charities and Sanibel Captiva Community Bank recently presented four custom-made adaptive tricycles — worth nearly $5,000 — to Southwest Florida children.
The presentation is part of an ongoing partnership between the organizations to support the needs of local disabled youths who are unable to ride a standard bicycle. Since 2017, funds raised through Grampy’s Charities and major donations from the bank have allowed Robbie’s Riders to deliver 86 bikes to special needs children.
Youths selected receive custom tricycles that assist with general strengthening, new proprioceptive sensory input and improved reciprocal coordination of the legs. With the tricycles, they can participate in activities with their families and peers and enjoy the normal childhood experience of riding a bike.
