County library system providing virtual programs

LEE COUNTY

The Lee County Library System, which includes the Captiva Memorial Library, is offering the following free virtual programming for all ages:

ADULT PROGRAMS

– March 12: Basic ESOL & Digital Literacy at 6 p.m.

Learn English and digital literacy skills in a free virtual learning series. The classes are offered in partnership with Learning Empowered. Advance registration required. For help registering, call 727-754-3976.

– March 16: Genealogy Webinar, Finding Ancestors in Ireland Before and After the Famine at 10 a.m.

Emigration from Ireland began as far back as the 1600s. The economy, political unrest and religious differences were major factors long before the potato famine. Donna Moughty, with Irish Family Roots Inc., will examine these issues and their impact on the process. Advance registration required.

– March 22: Small Business Series, Securing a Business Loan at 2 p.m.

Do you need capital to start or grow your business? Are you bankable? What do small business lenders look for in a loan application? Learn the secrets of getting a small business loan.

– March 23: Medicare Scams & Covid-19 at 10 a.m.

Join SHINE for a Lunch & Learn series about Medicare and Covid-19, and Covid-19 scams to be aware of. The presentation is offered in conjunction with the Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida, a non-profit organization dedicated to serving seniors and adults with disabilities. Advance registration required.

– March 24: Murder at the Library Book Club Author Presentation at 7 p.m.

In partnership with Sourcebooks, Baker & Taylor will host an exclusive live virtual book club event featuring Cate Quinn discussing her debut novel,” Black Widows.” The book is this month’s “Murder at the Library” book club selection and is available in print throughout the library system and electronically as an ebook through Hoopla. Advance registration required.

Enjoy storytime at home or on the go with Storytime Anytime! This is a condensed version of the in-person storytimes and includes a variety of songs, stories, rhymes and caregiver tips designed to promote and reinforce early literacy and language development.

The Captiva Memorial Library is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

It continues to offer curbside hold pick up Tuesday through Saturday.
