CECI alumnus gives back
Set to celebrate its 47th year of service in June, the Children’s Education Center of the Islands has been making strides and efforts this year to offer “place-based” educational experiences. The playground was in much need of repairs and updating, and the teachers wanted to provide the children with playground equipment that would tie into the culture and lifestyle of Sanibel, officials reported. Mark Willis, a longtime Sanibel resident and CECI alumnus, currently has his son enrolled at his alma mater. To give back to the CECI, Willis and his father constructed a wooden boat for the playground for the students to play in. Willis is a member of the local fishing community and is employed with Captain Noah’s Fishing Charters, another CECI alumni. The supplies for the boat were donated by Doc Ford’s Rum Bar and Grille, whose owners also has their son enrolled at the center.
