Sanibel library hosts exhibit and WWII programs

By SPL - | Mar 3, 2021

SPL ARCHIVES Women and child on path to the Sisters Hotel, which is now Casa Ybel (1908).

Since the early 1980s March is designated as Women’s History Month, a time to recognize, celebrate the contributions women have made to the United States and recognize the specific achievements women have made over the course of American history in a variety of fields. Celebrate the month with your Sanibel Public Library card — stop by the book display or borrow an eBook from home.

The Sanibel-Captiva Art League and Shell Island Garden Club’s “Art in Bloom” exhibit — floral arrangements inspired by and displayed with coordinating artwork — will be on display on March 9-10 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and March 11 from 9 a.m. to noon. Pieces will be located on the second level.

Locals and visitors can virtually attend World War II history programs with staffer Duane E. Shaffer via Zoom. No in-person programs are scheduled. On March 17 at 10 a.m., he will present “1943 Operation Eiche (Oak).” Visit www.sanlib.org and click on the link to login a few minutes beforehand to watch; no login registration is required. More details and login instructions are online.

Youth Services Librarian Deanna Evans posts online storytimes each week. To share in her virtual storytimes, songs and smiles, check out the library’s Children’s Page at sanlib.org/children.

The library continues to offer contact-less curbside service. To use the service, put items on hold online or make requests by calling 239-472-2483.
