F.I.S.H. to distribute Easter dinners, bunny baskets
F.I.S.H. of Sanibel-Captiva will assemble Easter dinner and bunny baskets for those needing assistance making their holiday extra bright this year. The dinner basket for families will contain everything needed for a healthy festive meal, and the bunny baskets for ages 2-12 will be filled with candy, small toys, school supplies and more.
Because of the ongoing effect to business and seasonal visitors during the pandemic, island neighbors are struggling to recover from job loss and reduced work hours, officials reported. F.I.S.H. anticipates providing at least 150 dinner baskets and 120 bunny baskets; however, it is expected that the numbers could grow as they did over the winter holidays.
Distribution for the bunny baskets will begin on March 22 and food basket distribution will be held on March 30 through April 4. Baskets may be picked up between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Walk-In Center, at 2430-B Periwinkle Way, Sanibel. Recipients will be those known to F.I.S.H. through usage of other programs, such as the food pantry and emergency financial assistance. Baskets are assembled by F.I.S.H. volunteers adhering to all COVID-19 precautionary measures.
“I want to thank all the volunteers who pick up food and donations, assemble baskets and help on distribution days,” Assistant Executive Director Maria Espinoza said. “Like last year’s holidays, it may be challenging to secure large quantities due to the COVID-19 restrictions and limitations on available food products. The Sanibel and Captiva Islands Association of Realtors has set up a food and gift drive for our Easter program, and others have committed to donating as well. We are so grateful for everyone’s support.”
