The Shell Islands Garden Club is continuing to sell a variety of caladiums as a spring fundraiser to support island and club horticultural activities. The tuberous plants, priced at a discounted four for $10, may be ordered until March 6 for “safe delivery pick-up” around mid-March.

Caladiums are known for their heart-shaped leaves that display color combinations of white, pink, red and green. They thrive in a hot, humid summer climate and grow well in full to partial shade. These perennials come back year after year with no need to dig them up for winterization, and each tuber has several eyes that produce the colorful leaves.

The club is offering five varieties: Frieda Hemple, Tickle Me Pink, Candidum, Sunset Pink and Moonlight. For those who cannot decide, there is a mixed color bag of caladium tubers available. Complete instructions for planting and care will be included with each order.

To place an order, contact Patti Poshek at 239-472-8078 or Sandra Dalbec at 239-472-3366.
