Supporting Maughan for city council
To the editor:
While there are many great candidates seeking election to the open Sanibel City Council seats, I would like the community to consider voting for Jason Maughan. Being on the council before, he has done great work helping address the beach erosion issues at Blind Pass. On the stormy days before the improvements were made, I saw him inspecting the water approaching the road at Blind Pass and putting together contingency plans.
I see Maughan as someone who wants to support the Sanibel community. As a resident for nearly his whole life, he is the perfect person to advocate for our island. Besides providing legal services for many local island businesses, he and his family have supported The Sanibel School, Sanibel Boy Scout Troop as a platoon leader, and as a coach for the school sports teams. He has served on directorial boards for several island organizations, including CROW, Sanibel School Fund, and several others.
Maughan has been a consistent advocate for water quality for our island. I believe this fight drove him to seek state elected office to bring this fight to the Florida legislature, all without taking special interest money.
I believe it is important to have people on city council who have an understanding of law, a respect for the history of the island, and a desire to help the community. Maughan has all of these and more.
Please support Maughan for city council.
