Fire commissioners OK policy change, audit engagement
At its recent meeting, the Captiva Island Fire Control District’s commission approved a board guidelines and administrative change and proceeded forward on the district’s annual audit.
On Feb. 9, Commissioners Jeffrey Brown, Colin Black and Sherrill Sims voted unanimously 3-0 in support of a resolution for a new cash disbursement and internal control policy. Prior to the vote, Fire Chief Jeff Pawul reported that it would set a cap for administrators to approve any unplanned costs.
Also at the meeting, the commission voted 3-0 to approve an engagement letter for the firm CliftonLarsonAllen to conduct the upcoming audit, which it is expected to begin on March 29.
“It’s the same format we’ve had the last couple of years,” Pawul explained.
CliftonLarsonAllen has done the district’s audit for about the last 10 years.
“Ours does not need to be done until June 30,” he said.
In a procedural change at the meeting, the commissioners also voted 3-0 to remove former Commissioner C.W. Kilgore from the district’s credit card and replace him with Black.
