Rotary Happenings: From Hollywood to Sanibel, director and producer shares story
The Sanibel-Captiva Rotary Club had the pleasure to hear from David Nixon, an American film director and producer. Currently, he works at the Shell Point Retirement Community as the Shell Point TV manager, producing its daily TV show as well as its commercials and promotional videos, which our club president well knows and has appeared in.
While Nixon was creating commercials for local communities in Southwest Florida, he felt a calling to make faith-based movies. He was approached by a church community in Georgia to help co-produce a screenplay with nearly no budget. Nixon persuaded his team to go to Georgia with him as a mission trip — another word for volunteer — for six weeks to produce the film. With only 500 volunteers from the church, lodging provided and meals created by church members, and a miniscule budget of $80,000, the film “Facing the Giants” was created. The film is not only faith-based, but has a motivational theme used by many teams to create momentum needed for a winning team attitude.
Nixon is also the director and producer of the movie “Letters to God” and co-producer and assistant director of “Fireproof.” He is the creator of the film company Possibility Pictures and president of DNP Studios, which has produced commercials for Subway restaurants, Nickelodeon, the New York City Convention and Visitors Bureau, Campus Crusade and Walt Disney World.
