Sanibel police launch free app for submitting anonymous tips
The public can now share public safety information anonymously with the Sanibel Police Department by sending it a secure message about crimes or suspicious activity via a new, free smartphone app.
Developed by tip411, the “Sanibel PD” app puts a crime-fighting tool into the hands of community members of all ages. The app can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and iTunes App Store or by visiting online at www.mysanibel.com/Departments/Police-including-Emergency-Management.
“We believe the public is our greatest law enforcement resource,” Police Chief William Dalton said. “Our new Sanibel PD app, along with our existing tip411 anonymous text a tip system, will help our residents play a more active role in keeping Sanibel safe.”
Like the existing tip411 text-a-tip system, the app enables the public to share an anonymous tip with Sanibel police and lets the officers respond back creating an anonymous two-way conversation.
Anyone with a cell phone can also send an anonymous tip by texting Sanibel and their message/tip to 847411 (tip411). Anonymous tips can also be submitted right from the police department’s Website.
The Sanibel PD app and tip411 text-a-tip system are both 100 percent anonymous, as the technology removes all identifying information before police see the tips and there is no way to identify the sender.
Always dial 911 for an emergency that requires immediate assistance.
