Reported number of COVID-19 cases increase on islands

UPDATE: As of today’s update, Sanibel’s total number of recorded cases has increased to 171.

Lee County has recorded 45,282 total cases of COVID-19 — 43,907 residents and 1,375 non-residents — including 174 between Sanibel and Captiva, according to the Florida Department of Health.

As of the Jan. 10 update, the DOH reported that it has recorded a total of 1,477,010 cases in Florida. The figure consists of 1,450,620 residents who tested positive, along with 26,390 non-residents.

There have been 22,912 deaths among Florida residents — 1.6 percent of the total cases.

There have been 714 deaths among residents in Lee — 1.6 percent of the total cases.
