45th Annual Juried Art Show to open at BIG ARTS
In concert with the Art Council of Southwest Florida, the Sanibel-Captiva Art League will present its 45th Annual Juried Art Show — “Exploration,” an eclectic multi-media exhibit — from Dec. 17 to Jan. 31 at the BIG ARTS Dunham Family Gallery. A virtual exhibit will be available starting on Dec. 21.
Each year, the show features innovative art works with subjects both abstract and representational, covering themes both unusual and familiar. Working in a variety of media, including two- and three-dimensional pieces, artists in Florida have produced works to delight and intrigue the viewer.
Educator, writer, presenter and artist Barbara Anderson Hill is the judge for the show. A resident of Sanibel during the 1970s and ’80s, she was one of the founders of BIG ARTS. Hill owned and operated a pottery school on the island and was an adjunct professor at Edison Community College. She has held key positions at art and cultural institutions, including curator and collections manager for the Florida Gulf Coast Art Center, grants and major gifts manager for the John and Mabel Ringling Museum of Art, founding executive director and curator for the von Liebig Art Center, and executive director of the Edison-Ford Winter Estates Foundation.
The art council is a consortium comprised of 21 Southwest Florida art leagues.
Hours for viewing are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.
