PHOTO PROVIDED Penny recommends borrowing holiday-themed books at the Sanibel Public Library.

The Sanibel Public Library is open and continues to offer contact-less curbside service.

The library offers cooking kits for patrons to check out and take home. Cardholders can borrow a paella or crêpe pan, tart pans, empanada press, cookie kits, novelty cake pans and more. The kits are a great way to experiment with new cooking techniques. From the fledgling foodie to a more accomplished culinary artist, anyone will find the kits useful. The library also offers over 1,000 cookbooks — from pies and cookies to cake pops, from Florida Cracker to Cuban, to Keto or recipes for an Instant Pot.

The library’s Book Sale Room has lots of new fiction, coffee table books and many illustrated children’s books. Most books are priced under $4. Canvas library tote bags are $15 and are made in the United States. There are 12 different colors to choose.

Join Youth Services Librarian Deanna Evans for virtual stories, songs and smiles. Her online Storytimes can be found on the library’s Children’s Page at sanlib.org/children.

An exhibition featuring memorabilia from Jay Norwood “Ding” Darling is on display. It includes never-before-seen artifacts, historical documents and artwork, commemorating the 75th anniversary of the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge. While at the library, stop by the main entry selfie screen for a photo. To celebrate the anniversary, email a photo with Ding — including his signature — and various birds of Sanibel overlayed on the selfie.
