CIHS hosts event to remake history
Nearly three dozen people recently took part in a “then and now” photo shoot on the island.
On Nov. 22, the Captiva Island Historical Society hosted “History Repeats Itself” in front of the Captiva Chapel by the Sea. CIHS officials reported that 35 people from the community took part in the restaging of a historical photograph that was taken in 1918, the year of the Spanish flu pandemic.
Participation was free and open to all, and spectators were welcome.
Officials previously reported that the aim was not to recreate the old photo, which hangs in the chapel, but to chronicle today’s current environment. The new picture will be placed in the CIHS’s archives.
