The season’s first art exhibition scheduled for the Captiva Civic Center has been canceled.

Originally set to open in mid-December, “Captiva Inspirations” was to be the kickoff show for the Captiva Civic Association’s 2020-2021 fine arts season. Every year, the CCA and Sanibel-Captiva Art League collaborate on the exhibit aimed at showcasing artwork centered around all things Captiva.

“We have decided to cancel this show due to the uncertainty of COVID-19,” Executive Director Roxanne Dyer, with the CCA, reported last week.

Usually a juried exhibit, artists are invited to submit freshly-rendered works that the feature a charming aspect of Captiva, one of its historical landmark, its beaches, native or natural inhabitants, and more.

With the title of “Captiva Inspirations,” this season’s show was set to run through Jan. 12.

The CCA has three remaining exhibits scheduled for the season: “Rauschenberg Explorations & Experimentations” in January, “Shorelines” in February and “Full Spectrum” in March.
