TOTI Media celebrates milestone anniversary

When founder and original publisher Friedrich Jaeger launched Times of the Islands in November 1996, he was told that failure was inevitable. “But the timing was perfect,” he said. “There was no other high-end, glossy magazine on Sanibel and Captiva Islands.”

Jaeger’s move wound up paying off as TOTI Media and its flagship publication mark a milestone this month, celebrating their 25th anniversary. His wife, Daniela, has been at his side for the last decade of that quarter century, now serving as group publisher and president.

TOTI Media has survived plenty of challenges over the years, from hurricanes to economic downturns. Through it all the Jaegers have continued the strategies that have brought them this far, such as building relationships with advertisers and subscribers and ensuring the magazines are filled with quality content.

“We have wonderful and loyal advertisers and subscribers, and we are very grateful for all their support over these 25 years,” Jaeger said. “They keep us going.”

The couple reflects on the past two-plus decades in a special anniversary-focused feature story in the November-December 2020 issues of its publications. Written by freelance writer and editor Beth Luberecki, it also includes insight from longtime advertisers, writers, editors and supporters about the reasons for the company’s longevity.

As TOTI Media prepares to close out 2020, a challenging year for everyone around the world, the Jaegers are looking ahead to the future and the next milestone that comes down the road.

“Our strategy is very simple: We respect each and every member of our community, and we hope they respect us,” Daniela Jaeger said. “We believe that with everything we have set in place over the last few years, and especially over the last few very challenging months, that we will stay on course with our print magazines and will increase print and digital offerings as we aim for growth over many years to come.”
