Update provided on Cayo Costa after storm
On Nov. 19, the Friends of Cayo Costa reported that many areas of Southwest Florida had an unwelcome fall visitor recently by the name of Hurricane Eta. Cayo Costa State Park was not spared. The floating dock was damaged and is being evaluated by engineers to determine if the damage is superficial or more structural in nature. Meanwhile, the ferry services are using alternate landing docks as they did after Hurricane Irma. The campgrounds were flooded and closed until the water dissipated and were reopened shortly afterward. The good news is that the park may possibly have gained a little beach sand. It is not unusual for beaches to accrete sand after a storm.
