County library system providing virtual programs

LEE COUNTY

The Lee County Library System, which includes the Captiva Memorial Library, is offering the following free virtual programming for all ages:

ADULT PROGRAMS

– Nov. 30: Medicare Part D at noon

Join SHINE in a Lunch & Learn series as it talks about Part D coverage and explain the donut hole. The presentation is offered in conjunction with the Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida, a non-profit organization dedicated to serving seniors and adults with disabilities. Advance registration required.

– Dec. 2: Murder at the Library Book Club Author Presentation at 7 p.m.

In partnership with Sourcebooks, Baker & Taylor will host an exclusive live virtual book club event featuring best-selling author Stuart Turton discussing his whodunit novel, “The Devil and the Dark Water.” The book is this month’s “Murder at the Library” book club selection and is available for free through Hoopla as an ebook and audiobook and in print throughout the library system. Advance registration required.

– Dec. 18: Author Series with Kimmery Martin

Kimmery Martin is an emergency medicine doctor-turned novelist whose works of medical fiction have been praised by The Harvard Crimson, Southern Living, The Charlotte Observer and The New York Times, among others. Her latest book is “The Antidote for Everything.” The presentation is part of an author series provided by the Florida Library Association, featuring award-winning and best-selling authors of various genres to inform, educate and entertain. Authors will spend time chatting about various topics, including: how they became a writer, their writing process, how libraries have impacted their career and audience Q&A.

TEEN PROGRAMS

– Dec. 1: Live Teen Author Presentation at 7 p.m.

In partnership with Sourcebooks, Baker & Taylor will host an exclusive live virtual book club event for teens featuring debut novelist Alicia Jasinska discussing her LGBT fantasy novel, “The Dark Tide.” The book is available electronically as an ebook using Hoopla. Advance registration required.

– Nov. 25: Stay At Home Storytime at 10 a.m.

The Captiva Memorial Library is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The branch will be closed on Nov. 26-27 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

It continues to offer curbside hold pick up Tuesday through Saturday.
