On Nov. 13, the Sanibel & Captiva Islands Chamber of Commerce celebrated new member Savoury Spoon’s opening on Oct. 26 with a ribbon cutting at its location in the Bailey Center on Sanibel.

Open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the eatery offers dine-in, take-out, curbside pickup and delivery. It is known for its varied breakfast menu, lunchtime grilled cheese and melt sandwiches, and from-scratch goodness.

“We spent four years growing Savoury Spoon at local farmers markets,” Amanda Estes, co-owner with her husband, Richard, said. “When we heard about the space opening on our favorite island, we knew we had to take the next step and give our loyal customers a place where they could visit us more frequently.”

For breakfast, which is served all day, she recommends the Chicken in a Waffle on a Stick or a dairy-free smoothie bowl, the latter customizable with toppings including vegan white chocolate shaped like a mermaid’s tail and other sea creatures with edible glitter.

Lunchtime favorites include the slow-cooked mojo pork Cuban sandwich and OG melt, with thick bacon, muenster cheese, and house-made roasted onion-garlic jam. Any time of the day, fresh-pressed juices and smoothies complement the various waffles-on-a-stick, breakfast specialties, bowls, soups, and sandwiches.

With the motto “Love people and feed them,” Savoury Spoon is also known for its customer service. Currently, the Esteses employ two staffers and plan to hire more as seasonal traffic picks up.

“We are thrilled to have Savoury Spoon filling a foodie niche on the island and as a valued new chamber member,” chamber President John Lai said. “We are already hearing great things about its food.”

“We joined the chamber to get to know our fellow business owners, and as a way to be a part of local events,” Estes said. “The island has so much to offer, and the chamber does an excellent job of organizing and educating the public about all of the events available throughout the year.”
