13th Annual Turkey Drop and Roll scheduled
The 13th Annual Turkey Drop and Roll will take place on Nov. 20 from 10 a.m. to noon at 1417 Jamaica Drive, Sanibel.
Organizers reported that things will be a little different this year. In order to keep it safe, they are asking for cash or check donations instead of frozen turkeys; checks should be made out to the Salvation Army. Organizers will then add up the donations and calculate how many turkeys to buy. All donations will be taken directly to Salvation Army to be used for its ongoing meal programs.
Last year, organizers collected 136 turkeys, totaling more than 2,100 pounds. Over the last 12 years, they we have collected 1,003 turkeys, totaling 15,700 pounds.
Organizers noted that many area families are in need of assistance and this year people have been especially hard hit. Many have turned to the Salvation Army for assistance. As a result, there is both an increased need for services and a decrease in donations.
Those unable to drop off a donation can arrange for pick up at 239-395-9411 or 239-841-0346.
