The Progressive Club of the Islands will hold its virtual monthly meeting on Nov. 19 at 4 p.m.

The guest speaker will be Bob Schaeffer, president of Fair Districts Now — the Florida statewide redistricting reform organization — and treasurer of the Progress Florida Education Institute. He is also a national political consultant and 20-year Sanibel resident. Schaeffer will discuss “Election 2020: What happened? Why? What’s next?”

Drawing on election results, exit polls, voter surveys and other data, he will analyze the outcome of this year’s political cycle and explain the key factors responsible for the campaigns’ outcomes. Schaeffer will also talk about the next steps for progressive activists in Southwest Florida and nationally to build power and influence public policies.

He works with national non-profit organizations, grassroots activist groups, political campaigns, foundations and socially responsible businesses seeking to deliver their messages to mass audiences more effectively and efficiently. Since 1970, Schaeffer has held senior positions with statewide and local campaigns for both candidates and ballot questions specializing in strategy, field organization and earned media.

From 2004-2010, he organized and coordinated the Florida 501 C3 Civic Engagement “Table,” whose members were responsible for registering more than l.2 million new voters, while running non-partisan get-out-the-vote drives that increased turnout in disenfranchised communities.

Leading more than 300 workshops on political campaign management, media relations, public speaking, strategic planning, and advocacy skills, Schaeffer wrote the campaign handbook “Winning Local and State Elections.” Prior to becoming a full-time consultant, he was an editorial writer at the NBC-TV affiliate in Boston and host of a talk show on a regional National Public Radio station. Schaeffer previously served as research director for the Massachusetts Legislature’s Human Services Committee.

There will be ample time for questions and comments. To attend the meeting, email pcisancap@gmail.com to receive the Zoom link or watch live at www.facebook.com/pcisancap.

Annual dues for the Progressive Club are $30 for an individual or $60 for a couple. To renew a membership or join, mail a check payable to PCI to: PCI, P.O. Box 898, Sanibel, FL 33957.
