Shell museum to hold kick-off fundraising event for the season
The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum will host the Mollusk Monster Mash, its kick-off fundraising event for the season, on Oct. 27 starting at 5 p.m. at Traders on Sanibel.
Given the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s event will have a few new twists. The restaurant will be open exclusively for event patrons and offer both inside and outside socially-distanced seating.
Tickets are $100 each and include a delicious gourmet meal served with wine. Attendees can reserve a private table for up to eight people inside or one for up to four outside for an additional fee of $100.
The menu will feature mixed baby greens salad with raspberry vin, gorgonzola and toasted pecans; entree choices of grill-blackened mahi with coconut-curry sauce, mango salsa and black beans and rice, braised beef short rib with cabernet demi and roasted garlic mash, Parmesan-encrusted breast of chicken with angel hair pasta and a lemon-caper beurre blanc, or a vegetarian dish; and Mike’s keylime pie with raspberry sauce finishing it off as dessert.
For those not comfortable dining at a restaurant, a takeout option is available. It will include their selected menu choice, delivered to their car by a sea-worthy “shellebrity” server from the community.
Attendees are encouraged to wear their “sea-worthy” attire to the event.
There will be several opportunities to participate and contribute. Ticket-holders will be able to go online to show their support by “tipping” their community server prior to and during the fundraiser.
The museum is also planning some additional surprises.
The deadline to buy tickets is noon on Oct. 23.
Dine-in seating is limited; there is no cap on the number of takeout orders.
The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum continues to educate students in Lee and Collier counties through its new Mollusks Online virtual programs. Proceeds from the fundraiser will support its educational programs, along with the maintenance of the live animals featured in the aquarium gallery.
