Number of COVID-19 cases increases on Sanibel

Lee County has recorded 20,780 cases of COVID-19 — 20,457 Florida residents and 323 non-residents — including 56 cases between Sanibel and Captiva, according to the Florida Department of Health.

As of the Oct. 4 update, the DOH reported that there are 716,459 confirmed cases for Florida. There are 707,751 cases involving Florida residents and 8,708 cases of non-residents. Based on the tests reported, the state has a positively rate of 13 percent among Florida residents.

There are 14,671 deaths among Florida residents, giving the state a death rate of 2.1 percent.

In Lee County, there have been 147,371 tests given to Florida residents, with 20,457 testing positive and 126,799 testing negative. Additionally, 27 cases are awaiting testing and 115 tests were inconclusive. Based on the testing reported, Lee County has a positively rate of 14 percent among its residents.

There are 474 deaths among Florida residents for Lee, giving the county a death rate of 2.3 percent.

*DOH officials reported that the city name was not entered when the test results were.

While the DOH provides information like age, gender, county, contact with a known case and travel information for deaths, it does not provide specifics on positive cases beyond the county of residence.
