New park manager announced for Cayo Costa
The Friends of Cayo Costa State Park recently welcomed Bryon Maxwell as the new manager.
Maxwell will have responsibility for managing not only Cayo Costa, but also for Gasparilla Island, Don Pedro and Stump Pass — all island parks along the coastline.
He began working as a volunteer with the Florida Park Service at age 15 and has had a myriad of experiences in several of the larger state parks. Maxwell has served at the Olustee Battlefield, Stephen Foster, Suwanee River Wilderness Trail and Manatee Springs. He was park manager at Colt Creek, a small day-use park, and most recently he served as park manager in the large and busy Alafia River State Park east of Tampa.
Maxwell brings a wealth of experience working with citizen support organizations like FoCC and is especially looking forward to the challenges of managing the coastal and beachfront parks.
Bill Nash will continue to oversee operations on Cayo Costa as the assistant manager.
