Monthly food drive by congregations a success

The Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ and Bat Yam Temple of the Islands held their monthly “No-Contact Drop-Off Food Drive” on Sept. 3, and it was another successful event.

More than 70 bags were dropped off to be given to F.I.S.H. of Sanibel-Captiva and the Gladiolus Food Pantry to help individuals and families who are facing the challenge of putting food on their tables.

The two congregations began the monthly collaborative effort in June to provide a way for the community to help its neighbors, while still following precautions to avoid COVID-19.

As the pandemic continues, the congregations will continue the monthly events.

To participate, the public is asked to put their donations in the truck or rear of their vehicle. Upon arrival at the church, gloved masked volunteers will unload them; there is no need to exit the vehicle.

The next drive will be held on Oct. 1 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at SCUCC, at 2050 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel. For more information, contact Pastor Deb at 239-472-0497 or deb@sanibelucc.org.
