An event that once opened Harborside Event Center in downtown Fort Myers will return to its roots and open the newly renovated space.

Expo Management Inc.’s Semi-Annual Home & Garden Show, now in its 24th year, takes place Sept. 19 and 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will be the first event at the new Caloosa Sound Convention Center.

The show will feature roughly 100 local and regional companies that display and present products and services to homeowners.

“Our company was the first tenant in Harborside (Event Center) 24 years ago with the home show and here we are 24 years later doing the home and garden show at the new convention center. That’s what really makes it kind of surreal to us,” said event organizer and President of Expo Management, Bill Anderson.

Attendees can experience the newest in-home improvement products and services inside and out, all in one location — from furnishings, accessories, decorating and remodeling ideas to landscaping and more. Hourly drawings and door prizes will also be given away.

Jim Parks from HGTV will serve as celebrity guest and will give three entertaining and educational seminars each day featuring “Update your Kitchen and Bathroom,” “I Need Curb Appeal” and “Change My Living Space.”

“We really are excited,” Anderson said. “The homeowners and exhibitors are thrilled to death too to finally be back downtown in Fort Myers where it all started,” Anderson said. “We’re going to have a solid group of companies and several thousand people spread out over two days.

“”You can go to one place and do all of your shopping, whether it be flooring, roofing, pools, decks, docks — inside and out of your home. It’s one-stop shopping, and you can get some good savings, too.

Expo Management General Manager David Pardi said the new convention center “looks tremendous.”

Renovations include major updates to the interior and exterior of the building, including a new roof, windows and exterior walls and will feature 39,000 square feet of function space, including a riverfront terrace.

The 2020 Semi-Annual Home & Garden Show will follow CDC, state and local recommendations which will include promoting social distancing, the wearing of facial masks, one-way direction only aisles a minimum of 8 feet wide and hand sanitizer stations throughout the venue. Masks will be provided to attendees without masks.

Expo Management Inc. was established in Fort Myers in 1987. The company has successfully produced 545 events over the past 33 years. In 2020, they will operate 19 events in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee.

The Caloosa Sound Convention Center is at 1375 Monroe St. in Fort Myers.
