F.I.S.H. distributes school supplies, offers tutoring aid
F.I.S.H. of Sanibel-Captiva’s Back-to-School Supplies Program for the 2020-21 school year distributed supplies to 128 school-aged children, which included the essentials, plus extras for those returning to campus, where communal supplies will not be as available as in years past due to COVID-19 measures.
Thanks to community support, F.I.S.H. received an abundance of supplies and financial donations to help defray the expense of back-to-school supplies for island neighbors.
In addition to supplies, F.I.S.H. offers tutoring scholarships in numerous subjects and at various levels. The client is responsible for identifying and arranging for a tutor who fits the needs of their child and, if approved, F.I.S.H. can assist with the cost of the tutoring assistance.
“With the turbulent close of the last school year and uncertainty in this school year, we anticipate further growth in our tutoring assistance program,” Executive Director Alicia Tighe Orgera said. “We have several students who have been using tutors over the summer — virtually — in order to ensure they’re ready to start the new school year despite impacts of COVID.”
