Lee County library system providing virtual programming for all

LEE COUNTY Captiva Memorial Library

The Lee County Library System, which includes the Captiva Memorial Library — currently closed to visitors in light of COVID-19 — is offering the following free virtual programming for all ages:

ADULT PROGRAMS

– Aug. 26: Manage Your Medicare Online at 10 a.m.

Join SHINE in its virtual classroom to learn tips and tools to help you safely manage your Medicare online. The presentation is offered in conjunction with the Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida, a non-profit organization dedicated to serving seniors and adults with disabilities. Advance registration required.

– Aug. 26: Murder at the Library at 7 p.m.

In partnership with Sourcebooks, Baker & Taylor will host an exclusive live virtual book club event featuring the editor of the Library of Congress Crime Classics series and one of the foremost authorities on the mystery genre, Leslie S. Klinger. “The Rat Began to Gnaw the Rope” is this month’s “Murder at the Library” book club selection and is available electronically through Hoopla. Advance registration required.

– Sept. 1: What’s in Your Kitchen? at 11:30 a.m.

The online cooking demo will teach you how to make quick and healthy meals with items you already have. Make. Taste. Eliminate Waste. Session offered as part of a four-part weekly series by the University of Florida IFAS Extension. An ingredient list will be shared by email prior to each program. Advance registration required.

– Aug. 26: Stay At Home Storytime at 10 a.m.

In October, the Lee County Library System will host Fandom Fest for All Ages. Take part in a month-long virtual celebration of fandoms and geek culture. Celebrate a new fandom theme each week. Special activities include: reading challenges, trivia, a costume contest, art exhibit, special storytimes, cosplay presentations, virtual escape rooms, crafts and prizes.
